Child Care Resource and Referral Specialist

The Resource & Referral (R&R) program provides comprehensive support to families, child care providers and the community in finding, planning for and providing affordable, quality child care. The R&R Specialist supports parents by providing child care referrals that best meets their needs, conducting parental workshops and outreach and developing informational brochures. The R&R Specialists provides technical assistance and resources and trainings to family child care providers. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate, develop and conduct bilingual trainings and workshops for parents and family child care providers 
  • Maintain regular and ongoing communication with Manager regarding status of current projects and development of new projects
  • Create informational resources for parents and providers, including but not limited to the Resource Packet, Choosing quality care, parenting newsletters and tipsheets, and other topics related to child care
  • Work with Manager to create a parent advocacy chapter and coordinate advocacy events
  • Developing outreach plans to recruits participants for R&R Programs
  • Coordinate outreach events, and build relationships with community agencies and corporations to support parents and providers citywide
  • Maintain and update provider referral files and provider records in the referral data base
  • Identify trend to better serve clients based on information collected and daily observations
  • Conduct R&R referral shifts to families
  • Maintain, update internal/community resources, such as the family resources, and Lending libraries, to ensure parents have access to latest information
  • Assists Manager to update R&R policies and procedures
  • Assists in the creation and design of branding and marketing the R&R program to the community
  • Recruit new child care providers to join the referral database; conduct site visits to Family Child Care homes in accordance with program guidelines
  • Provide technical assistance to Family Child Care Providers, including but not limited to, information regarding licensing requirements and issues, business development, marketing, community and child care resources
  • Provide written and verbal translations as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bilingual in Cantonese/English required
  • Bachelors Degree in Child Development is a plus 
  • Experience working with adult learner, limited English speakers and diverse populations
  • Ability to implement materials, conduct workshops for groups
  • Ability to be creative, and experience in curriculum and resource development
  • Strong training, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs, especially Power Point 
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of childcare providers in San Francisco
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team member
  • Strategic thinking, influencing, problem solving and decision making skills and be self-directed
  • Knowledge of quality child care standards
  • Ability to collaborative and build positive/effective partnerships 
  • Knowledge of Child Care Licensing regulations is a plus
  • Ability to work on evenings and weekends
  • Ability to bend and lift 50 pounds

 EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Education, Social Work or related field AND one year paid experience OR
  • 2 years experience working in child development or human services field
